One continuous path, from KG to upper primary

Six levels, one continuous path: KG 1, KG 2, Nursery 1, Nursery 2, Lower Primary and Upper Primary. Each level is a complete learning environment — and each child moves through it at her own pace.

The ROIS learning cycle

Experience → Explore → Think → Apply

Children encounter ideas through meaningful experiences, explore materials and questions, think about what they notice, and apply learning in practical contexts. We call it the ROIS learning cycle — and it runs through every class.

Experience

Children meet ideas through hands-on, meaningful experiences with real materials and real life.

Explore

They explore materials, questions and the world around them — freely and purposefully.

Think

They think about what they notice, make connections and build understanding.

Apply

They apply their learning in practical contexts, using it rather than only storing it.

What families see

Our four parent-visible pillars

Four pillars run through everything we do. They are ambitious, but always developmentally appropriate — a two-year-old is never expected to perform like a five-year-old.

READ

Knowledge, understanding and making meaning.

OWN

Independence and responsibility.

ORATE

Communication and expression.

THRIVE

Confidence, creativity and growth.

KG 1

The KG 1 child is supported to feel safe, loved, curious and ready to participate. The day is built from practical life, movement, music and long stretches of independent work — so a child learns to pour her own water, put her own things away, and ask for what she needs.

Leading learning areas

  • Numeracy — rote count 1–10, recognise numbers 1–5, match quantities, sort by colour and size
  • Literacy & language — stories, songs, rhymes, vocabulary, purposeful marks, matching objects to initial sounds
  • Colour & environment — red, yellow and blue; matching and relating colours to familiar objects
  • Body awareness — head, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hands, fingers, legs and feet
  • OWN (independence) — carry belongings, pack away, follow simple routines, attempt self-care
  • ORATE (communication) — respond to name, use short phrases, name people and objects
  • THRIVE — curiosity, willingness to explore, beginning positive peer interaction

KG 2

The KG 2 child moves from simple exploration toward recognising relationships, making connections and participating purposefully. The full Montessori shelf comes into view: letters, number rods, first geography and history — and by the end of this year many of our pupils are writing their own names and telling time.

Leading learning areas

  • Numeracy — rote count 1–100, recognise numbers 1–50, write numerals, understand value 1–20, sort and classify
  • Literacy & language — recognise letters, sound awareness, rhyming, retelling, mark-making and sounds a–z
  • Colour & environment — primary + familiar additional colours
  • Body awareness — major body parts and simple functions, basic hygiene and self-care
  • OWN (independence) — follow routines, care for belongings, wait for turns, follow two-step instructions
  • ORATE (communication) — short sentences, who/what/where questions, describe familiar objects
  • THRIVE — cooperative play, attempting new activities, practical problem-solving, persistence

Age 4 · I can understand & apply

Nursery 1

The Nursery 1 child develops stronger conceptual understanding and begins applying knowledge with increasing independence. Confidence, language, early numeracy and coordination grow together through hands-on play, gentle guided work, and every stage builds naturally towards the next.

  • Literacy & language — recognise letters and sounds, beginning sounds, blending, sequencing and retelling, simple writing and phonemic words
  • Colour & environment — primary and common colours, sort, match and describe
  • Body awareness — major body parts and functions, hygiene and body-care routines, healthy habits
  • OWN (independence) — organise materials, follow routines independently, complete tasks, care for belongings
  • ORATE (communication) — speak clearly, describe experiences, explain simple ideas, retell a story, ask questions
  • THRIVE — curiosity, creativity, cooperation, persistence, emotional regulation, growing confidence

Age 5 · I can apply & explain

Nursery 2

Nursery 2 is our school-readiness stage. The child demonstrates strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, communication, independence and learning habits — and is prepared to step confidently into primary school. Academic excellence and character development grow together.

Leading learning areas

  • Numeracy — rote count 1–500, identify numerals 1–500+, write numbers 1–900, number names to 900+, solve addition and subtraction, explore multiplication and division, measurement, time and money

Lower Primary

Lower Primary

Between KG and lower primary, the absorbent mind becomes the constructive mind — and our Lower Primary classrooms meet it with big ideas made tangible. The number line stretches to infinity on the floor. Language is traced back to its roots. The living world is studied with eyes, hands and microscopes. And once a week, every child sits at a computer to do what computers are for: building.

Your child will

  • Handle the great ideas — quantity, language, geography, history
  • Program real games in the coding lab, from the Jumping Rooster up
  • Read widely and begin writing structured short stories
  • Lead a classroom job — because leadership is practised, not awarded

Upper Primary

Upper Primary

The deepest work of the primary years is where our pupils become researchers, writers and competitors. Long composition, guided research projects, and a curriculum that keeps both the Nigerian core and the international pathway in view. This is also the home of the ROIS Spelling Bee — the competition our families have put on the map. Academic excellence and character development grow together, and our pupils leave ready to study anywhere.

Your child will

  • Plan and write compositions, reports and short research projects
  • Train for the ROIS Spelling Bee and inter-school competitions
  • Deepen mathematics, science and social studies for secondary placement
  • Leave primary school ready and ready to study anywhere

Beyond the shelf

Enrichment that earns its place

Everything in our enrichment block has a job: it sharpens a skill, builds a habit, or feeds a joy. None of it is filler.

Coding & Digital Skills

Weekly lab sessions where children write real code, debug it, and ship their first games. Screens that build, never consume.

Spelling Bee & Literacy

Daily phonics, weekly reading circles, and a competition season that has already put ROIS on a national podium.

Music & Movement

Rhythm, dance and call-and-response circles — how our early-years pupils learn memory, listening and pure joy.

Outdoor Science Garden

The soil is the first laboratory. Sensorial albums, plant care and morning outdoor cycles on our own green.

Character & Values

The morning circle, the service jobs, the motto. The programme every other programme is poured into.

Sports & Play

Scrabble, chess and creative play — words, strategy and imagination, well played. The mind and the body both get to work.
